Igbo Man Builds Solar-powered Keke Napep From The Scratch, Names It Okafor (Photos)

Mr Anthony Obinna Okafor, a graduate of Mechanical/Production Engineering, Nnamdi Azikiwe University has manufactured a solar-powered tricycle to help meet new demands.

Unveiling the tricycle recently Abakiliki, Ebonyi State, Okafor from Enugu State disclosed that it took him about 21 days to finish manufacturing the tricycle.

In his Interview with Vanguard, Okafor said he wanted to be the man leading the production of electric cars in Africa just like Elon Musk is doing with his brand, Tesla.

Speaking further, Mr Okafor said his new product was impeded by limited working tools and equipment. He admitted that he imported some parts used in assembling the tricycle such as the electric motor, axle and controllers. He however said he could fabricate the accessories himself if he gets the necessary funding.

Explaining how the tricycle works, Okafor said it had inbuilt solar panels that charges on its own via solar energy. The tricycle also has an external solar power supply of generator and can also be charged with the grid.

The tricycle when fully charged can go 60 to 70km and on a sunny day, the inbuilt panels can augment the range with additional 10km, Mr Okafor added.

At the moment Mr Okafor has decided to brand his product with the his surname “OKAFOR” just like Innoson, Honda, Benz and other popular auto brands.

He said that if he had the opportunity to meet the President of the country, he would implore him to assist in mass production of “OKAFOR.”
